Featured Link: “Gobbledigook” music video

Sigur Rós has just released the music video for the single “Gobbledigook”, from their latest album. The video is basically a frantic, naked, handheld romp through the woods. Literally.

It’s inspired by photographer Ryan McGinley’s project “I Know Where the Summer Goes,” which I find fascinating and beautiful because despite being shot in recent years, both hearken to the nudist colonies and washed out film days of the 70s. So awesomely vintage.

I already liked Sigur Rós’s music, but while watching this video, for the first time I saw what I could never see in dozens of classic nude statues and paintings that inevitably hang in every museum and gallery. What all those artists, sculptors, and photographers had strove to capture but I never understood when I saw their work: the beauty of the naked human form. Amazingly, it wasn’t until I saw the subjects in this video (and McGinley’s project) relaxing, acting naturally, and moving comfortably despite their nudity that I began to also notice the beautiful ways that people could move. The smooth skin stretched over lithe muscle, the natural shapes and curves. This isn’t glamorous posing and dramatically-lit nude portraiture—it’s playful, celebratory dancing.

It’s AWESOME!!

Catchy music, too.

PS, if you hadn’t noticed (duh), both links contain artistic nudity. Click at your own discretion.

the writing’s on the wall

The other night I attended a performance of surf rock band Bert Susanka and the Astronaut Love Triangle…Matt and I know the bassist, Adam. Quite possibly the goofiest Brit on the planet.

Anyway, it was in a dark little bar and all I had was my little P&S; I found some compelling graffiti on the bathroom walls:

Lastly, Adam, acting as he normally does:

[12] Baby Portrait images

This weekend I took some portraits of little Sienna, just 7 months old. She is SO expressive, editing her pictures made me laugh out loud; she’s making a different face in every shot!

I guess I just have that effect on babies.

One of the many that make me LOL

Hee hee…”OMG I’m the STAR!!!”

Trigger Happy TV

I don’t know if any of you have seen clips from the British hidden-camera show Trigger Happy TV, but for the most part they are positively hysterical.

Here’s a couple of my (work safe) favorites. They’re each no more than 45 seconds:

Even though the music in the first one is from one of my favorite bands, Muse, I’m not wild about their choice of music to dub over everything…but I just love that there’s no cheesy laugh track. I think it actually makes it funnier.

“BEE” alert!

On Saturday I second-shot a wedding with Marc Weisberg out in Fallbrook. It was a LOOOOOONG day, but we had lots of fun; for example, Marc, myself, and Marc’s assistant Steve all carpooled out there and when we got into the car that night after the reception we discovered there was a bee flying around in it.

And this is why you always have your P&S at the ready!

Things to look for in this vid:
1. Steve peering into the dashboard vents from outside the car, trying to see where the bee got to.
2. Marc realizing I’m videotaping from the backseat
3. Really bad bee puns.

Images from this week

Me, my brother, dad, and mom.

(The sun waited until the precise moment the shutter opened, and then it came out. Now I am blinding you all with my brilliantly pale paleness)

On Monday a luncheon was held at Azusa Pacific University for my father, a noted theologian who teaches there. He is stepping down as the chairman of the Theology Department to work instead as the dean’s Endowed Research Professor, a position that many of his colleague envy immensely.

Of course we’re all very proud!

The Kat & I

Yesterday I had lunch at the Pike in Long Beach with my fellow photographer friend Kat. She needed some headshots so we walked around the boardwalk area for a while afterwards and snagged a few:

Kat: “Look! My blog colors!!”
