Some of you already know I’ve kind of gone MIA for a few days last week; September has gotten off to a really, really rough start for me. In addition to my cousin Sara getting married, my grandma finally succumbed to her lung cancer on the 2nd, and the following week was a flurry of memorial planning with my mother and visiting relatives. Her memorial service and reception was actually on Friday—it went really well and it was great to see and meet so many of her friends and relations.
This is a slideshow I put together for my grandma’s memorial, with music by
Priscilla Ahn. We gave out DVD copies of it, and it was wonderfully well-received. My grandma had some great photographs of herself and her family from throughout her entire lifetime, and it’s really inspired me as a photographer to keep documenting as many people, places, and things as I can throughout my own lifetime.
Also, I moved to an apartment near downtown Huntington Beach. I’m sure I needn’t go into how busy moving keeps a person. It’ll probably be another two weeks or so before everything’s fully in place with that!
Then, my beloved family dog Bart, who was 15 years old, began exhibiting painful spasms in his hind legs and had to be put down. It will probably be awhile before my parents, brother, and myself are fully recovered from his death, because we loved him immensely, and owned him for nearly half my life. Bart was no less than the perfect dog: intelligent, loyal, lovable, mellow, and puppy-cute well into adulthood. He won several ribbons for obedience and showmanship with me when I participated in 4-H in junior high, and he was a good friend to our family cat Sidd, even when Sidd was a tiny kitten. We were all incredibly lucky to have him in our lives.

Bart. He was a beagle/pug mutt we picked up from a local shelter.

Posing for me…sometimes he would help me with my photography/cinematography homework.

We’re going to miss him so much…
So, it’s been a pretty disorienting whirlwind for me recently. I’m trying to get back into the swing of things and it’s nice to be distracted by work and unpacking, at least.
