[8] Adoptable pet images

This morning I volunteered to do some special photos for the Orange County Humane Society, hoping that with some pro “headshots” some of their wards will be adopted sooner. I dunno about anyone else, but a photo is a HUGE sell for me when I’m browsing products (or pets?) online, and hopefully they’ll make a difference for these dogs and cats who are looking for a home!

As always, please consider adoption when looking into getting a dog or a cat, and ALWAYS SPAY AND NEUTER!!

Jasper, a little terrier mix. Isn’t he a DOLL?!?!? And look how badly he wants to go home with you!

Elvira and her hypnotic eyes

Rowland, the most affectionate Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix you will ever meet.

Unnamed kitteh who will be available for adoption in a week or two

Sally the sweetheart

“Oh, it’s a Kitler!” I said when I saw this kitty, but the HS personnel didn’t know what I was talking about.

Dax gives me his best “Adopt Me!” giggle. It’s truly a shame how many Staffordshire Bull Terriers and Pit Bull mixes end up here simply because people think that they’re naturally mean dogs, and they don’t spay or neuter the dogs they have.

Amelia makes a face!

You can find more info on these pets and many more at the OC Humane Society’s website.

[33] Halloween wedding images

I don’t know what everyone else was doing on Halloween, but Matt & I shot an UNFORGETTABLE wedding that day!! Leanne (aka “Sparkles”) and Tommy love Halloween, and love pirates. So getting married on Halloween with a pirate-themed wedding was a no-brainer!

Sparkles’ stupendous saucy-maid bouquet was done by family-friend florist Melinda McCoy. And check out those BOOTS!!

As an added touch of flair, Sparkles had paper parasols ready for all the ladies involved…even me!

Getting some air before getting dressed

I didn’t dress up, but I did apply a Jolly Roger temporary tattoo that Sparkles gave me. It glowed in the dark!

Sparkles had set up a countdown on her phone to the wedding day :D

“Drop-dead” gorgeous, lol!

Hee hee!

Tommy getting his swashbuckling beard braided to look more pirate-y. Image by Matt.

They used Sparkles’ mother’s backyard garden for the small private ceremony. It rained the night before but the sun came out for a spooktacular wedding day!

Sparkles and her mom are officially the queens of Do-It-Yourself decorating. No contest.

Tommy and his motley crew. Ever seen a groom with a cutlass before??

Leanne with her wenches. Image by Matt.

This was truly special; Sparkles and Tommy had a “haunted” portrait of themselves specially drawn by Crab Scrambly, which they used for invitations and such.

A ninja even appeared at the wedding! WHO SAYS NINJAS AND PIRATES DON’T MIX??

You’ll never see another wedding cake like this!

Tommy gets some love from his momma :)

Tommy heard The Pirates Charles on the radio one day and called them up to see what they were doing on Halloween. A more fitting band for a pirate wedding simply does not exist, methinks. They were fantastic performers.

Sparkles had a surprise for Tommy waiting under her garter!

She also had a surprise for all her lady friends…

…a bouquet that split into half a dozen smaller ones!

Saucy, merry maids!

[3] band portraits

Yesterday I shot some portraits guerrilla-style of Opus Dai, out near Pasadena. The guys are headed out on a tour of the Southwest today, and I wish them good health and good luck!

This setup was the band’s concept. I thought it was appropriate that they envision at least one shot as they know themselves, their style, and their music better than anyone.

* * * * *

I am very, very excited about Barack Obama’s victory on Tuesday. Charles Ogletree said Tuesday on the Daily Show that “two skinny guys from Illinois have made a difference: Abe Lincoln and Barack Obama.” Obama has a tall order to fill, but I’ve never felt more confident about any other American leader. It will be tough, but he’ll be great.
