A wide variety of subjects and styles, locations and situations—these are the photos I took this year that deserve honorable mention but wouldn’t fit in my wedding and portraiture sets.

Bring the Rain

It’s funny how us Southern Californians (who live in what is technically a desert) welcome the winter rain like how people everywhere else welcome the summer sun.

Chrys & Rick: Teaser

Last weekend Matt & I had the brilliant luck and unparalleled pleasure of photographing Chrys & Rick’s wedding in the Dominican Republic. Destination weddings are decidedly more difficult than local ones, but I can’t even begin to describe how awesome of a time we had. Chrys’ & Rick’s families were open and welcoming, and their friends are all so impossibly cool and friendly that I’ve half a mind to move to Ohio, D.C., or NY myself just to find more people just like them!

I’m hard at work editing through the 4000+ images we shot and I’ll be in Napa Valley this weekend for another destie, but for now here’s a little sampling of our Memorial Day weekend in the Republica Dominica:

Happy Birthday, Matt!

Among Matt’s presents today are a batch of special chocolate-chip cookies. I’m really a terrible cook, but I don’t mind baking, and these cookies are totally worth it. As the person who always cheers me up and keeps me sane, Matt deserves the best homemade cookies ever! Happy Birthday to my right-hand man!

Want to make some yourself? Here’s the recipe, which I originally found on the lifesaving allrecipes.com.

Matt’s Birthday Cookies (SO GOOD):

* 2.25 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 teaspoons baking soda
* 1 teaspoon baking powder
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 1 cups butter, softened
* 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
* 1/4 cup white sugar
* 1 (3.4oz) package instant vanilla pudding mix
* 2 eggs
* 1.5 tablespoons vanilla extract
* 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
* 1 cups chopped walnuts (optional)

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt, set aside.

2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar. Beat in the instant pudding mix until blended. Stir in the eggs and vanilla. Blend in the flour mixture. Finally, stir in the chocolate chips and nuts. Drop cookies by rounded spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.

3. Bake for 10-15 minutes in the preheated oven. Edges should be golden brown. Yields app. 3 dozen cookies.
