Engagement session at Pacific City in Huntington Beach! I am all about sessions at sites where I can also get a lavender latte or gelato on a stick!
Looking forward to this couple's wedding in just a couple weeks! Ahhhh! They are such stunners in front of the camera, I can't wait to see them dussied up in wedding finery!
Every once in a while I meet couples who are self-professed "not beach people." Which is totally fine. Because then we end up in splendid wilderness-y locations for their engagement session, as with Jaymee and Mike's. Also I am digging Jaymee's makeup, I kept having double-takes while editing thinking she resembles Adele a little bit!
Just a few peeks at the lovely light we had for Katie and Austin's engagement session in San Pedro. It's so cool discovering little hidden gem locations ideal for some romantic photography.
I love the opportunity for photography on college campuses. They're spacious, well-landscaped, uncrowded most weekends, typically unconcerned with low-profile photoshoots, and have clean, aesthetic architecture. So easy and beautiful. Of course, college campuses as portrait locations are not usually popular among engaged couples unless, like Tammy and Chris, they met at the university in question! CSULB is a huge campus and even these two weren't terribly familiar with all of it, so we had fun wandering around with their beagle Dodger, looking for great sunlight, settings, and maybe a few spots with the iconic campus pyramid in the background!
Nic and Kim are so relaxed together, they are going to surely have the chillest of chill weddings this October (but rest assured it will also be illest of ill too). Nic serenaded us with some tunes on his trumpet during this session, and even their furbaby got in on the engagement action!
I am embarrassed to admit that in TWO separate moments of total mental weakness during this session I slipped and addressed Brittany as "Julia" because I think she looks so much like Julia Stiles from certain angles/expressions. These two wanted some nice springtime foliage with their engagement session so it was fabulous that in addition to beautiful sunshine, we recently had some nice heavy rains that resulted in gorgeous blooms and greenery abounding for their photoshoot! Now I can't wait to see what else their good luck will bring them during their wedding this June!
Really looking forward to Allyson and Trevor's seaside wedding in Huntington Beach later on this year! The couple is so comfortable with each other in front of the camera, and we had beautiful weather for their beach engagement sesh. Fingers crossed for as beautiful a sunset on their wedding day!
These two are just TOO CUTE!! Kevin contacted us about the surprise wedding proposal he was planning for his girlfriend Jessica at Disney's CA Adventure with a few logistical challenges: Neither he nor Jessica had ever been to the park before! It took a little bit of planning via Google Maps satellite and poring over images from other proposals/engagement sessions we'd done there to finally help select a good spot for the two of them that wouldn't be too crowded but still have nice light. They look like they had a lot of fun during this session with Matt, here are some of my faves!
I had never met Tracy and Steven before they blustered into the Santa Monica area for their engagement session, but I liked them immediately. They'll be getting married out of state later this year but Tracy used to live near the pier and liked the idea of getting some engagement pictures there while they were briefly in town. The pair of them are a bundle of laughs together, and I'm pretty sure they'll be throwing a rip-roarer of a party during their reception!
The many faces of Tracy, ladies and gentlemen.
I won't go into detail about the harrowing experience Alana and Alex had making their way from Culver City down to Costa Mesa for their engagement session at the fair, but it can be summed up pretty nicely with the word "traffic." Once they arrived and procured an oversized corn dog and crispy turkey leg, they had a grand old time, because let's be honest...it's really hard to not have fun at the fair!
Tracy and Richard (better known by his nickname "Bub") may quite possibly be my most laid-back couple of 2013. A chill engagement session at a chill brewery on a lazy June afternoon...I don't think it could get more laid-back without a babbling brook and a cold beer...oh wait, we had that too! We're happy for this awesome mellow couple and are looking forward to their surely laid-back wedding next month.Tracy has the most dazzling smile! I can't wait to see her in a beautiful wedding dress.
Gorrrrrrrggeeeeouuuuss light and springtime greenery for Nallely and Ivan's engagement session, which is exactly what the couple (getting married this June with an ocean view!) had in mind. This location is my new favorite "secret spot," at least for the springtime when everything is soft and lush!Check out all the widlife we saw during this session! It was so exciting to spot coyotes, toads, woodpeckers, stink bugs, rabbits, and wild parakeets. It must be spring because everyone is out and about on the trails!
I'm excited for this couple's upcoming wedding in March. They're way too cute together and I'm sure their beach-themed wedding will be just as sweet as they are together. Grace looks glowing with her hair and makeup styled by Design Visage!
Apparently Vanessa's only requests for the engagement party: beer and cheese. Bradley's sister Christy was only too happy to oblige, hosting a relaxed gathering in her backyard featuring beanbag games on custom boards with decals of Vanessa & Brad's faces, and (eventually) beer pong! We count Vanessa, who works at the Hilton Waterfront Resort here in Huntington Beach, as one of our good friends in the events industry and were so flattered that she and Bradley asked us to photograph this!Venue: Private residenceCatering: Bear Flag Fish CompanyFlorals: DIYLinens: Designer Specialty Linens
The couple of the hour, as well as their fur baby Pixie.Vanessa and Bradley gifted family members with personalized beverage glasses depicting nicknames.Vanessa, to any and all children who'd just arrived: "Are you excited to throw beanbags at my face??!"Of course, no backyard party is complete without a beer pong tournament. Vanessa and her mother (yes, her mother!) competed against Bradley and one of his friends.
Kristin & Garrett wanted to make a splash when celebrating their engagement with their families and friends, so they invited everyone aboard a luxurious yacht via Charter Yachts of Newport Beach for an afternoon of nibbles, drinks, and visiting with each other. Kristin works with Natalie on the Good Affair wedding & event design team. The couple also ordered some gorgeous June weather, perfect for a harbor cruise!Congrats to the happy couple!
After having seen Trevor and Angela's popular proposal photos online, David contacted me because he had a similar idea for proposing to his girlfriend Tobie, while they visited Disney's California Adventure from their hometown of Clovis with Tobie's two girls. David's plan was admirably sweet and simple: Sit for a caricature sketch with the artists at Paradise Pier, and propose to Tobie when the portrait (also depicting him proposing to her!) was revealed. It SOUNDS simple enough until you arrive and have to deal with crowds of people walking by and discussing the sketch as it unfolds, not to mention Tobie's two little girls who grew increasingly excited as they realized what was about to happen.Crystal, the stellar caricature artist, made sure to write a sign imploring people to not spoil the surprise when they saw the picture. I think there were some close calls, but by the look on her face in the photos, I'd say Tobie had NO IDEA!Congratulations to Tobie & David and their family!
Cindy and Jaime braved mysterious rustling bushes and possible poison oak to land some of these photos. I love how they're able to roll with the punches, and all the awesome plans they have lined up for their wedding at the Museum of Art in Long Beach are making me antsy for July to hurry up and get here!
Lovin' on these photos I just got back from our Luminaire Images associate Carolyn, of one of our June couples in downtown Orange. Such a cute pair! Looking at Ashley and Brian flirting and snuggling kind of put me in a hand-holding mood :)Happy Monday!
Lockell and Chris are getting married in a historic train substation/movie set, so to keep with the theme the two opted for an engagement session at the famous Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. Of course, such a fabulously vintage setting inspires fabulously vintage attire, and this couple went all out! I love Lockell's chic charcoal Melie Bianco purse, Fratelli Orsini lambskin gloves, and Chris' snappy, colorful argyle. I can't wait to see what kind of detail they have going on at their wedding this September!
