EMERGENCY ALERT! The Orange County Humane Society shelter is currently FULL. If you are considering adopting a pet, now is the time to take action and check out their animals! They have dogs and cats of all ages, sizes, and colors, as well as rabbits, on occasion. When the shelter reaches max capacity they are forced to turn away other healthy and adoptable unwanted animals to an unimaginable fate! The shelter is also always accepting donations of pet food, blankets, litter, cleaning supplies, and more. Check out their ongoing wish list if you are considering charity for the holiday season!
Matt and I were invited to participate in the Shorebreak Hotel's "Couture Dog" fashion event a couple weeks ago, to premiere the Shorebreak's dog-friendly services as well as benefit the Orange County Humane Society. Humane Society pets were paraded up and down the catwalk while guests sipped cocktails and enjoyed the live DJ and fashionable pets in attendance!
More fur-babies in need of homes. Some are old, some are young, but they all love a warm place to sleep and someone to care for them!
Are you ready for your summer dose of boopable noses and heart-melting Bambi eyes?
Haiku the cat has fangs! (Maybe they should have called him "Cullen" or something!). Poor kitty, he was dumped off at the shelter when his loving owner died of cancer.
Capri truly has the most hypnotic eyes
The Humane Society has a lot of really pretty cats right now...
Wishing I had a smile as big as Beau's (right)
Sweet Trudy. I love this dog...she has a wee underbite.
Like many white cats, Polar is hard of hearing.
Poor Axle, giving me the sad-eye
"Crunchy" tries to nab a toy
This pup didn't even have a name yet!
"Double Stuff" (like the oreo?) and Luie. Poor Luie was adopted and then returned to the shelter. How could they resist those huge eyes?
Bear is a big, handsome tomcat
Ah, the year in review... it's extraordinarily difficult to select my favorites from my favorites out of ALL the photos I took this year, but here's what made the cut!Wow. I totally didn't notice until posting them how many of my favorites included pets portraits. <3
The Orange County Humane Society is up to their ears in bunnies! I can personally testify that once you realize they are NOT like cats or dogs, rabbits make for excellent pets; they are quiet, low-maintenance (compared to a dog), and excellent for folks living in apartments or other small living quarters. Do your research, however---rabbits need space to run and rooms with open cables and wires need to be bunnyproofed!
The lonely Natasha
Harley, striking a pose
Candie's eyes really are that pretty!
Mamacita is a shy lover of all humans.
Dewey the doxie; boy, did he ever work it for the camera!
YES! Time for more furry faces from the OC Humane Society!
Mia has an adorable snaggletooth!
Tooti and her luminous eyes
The Humane Society has an unusual number of rabbits right now, likely due to bunnies bought as babies during the Easter season and promptly dumped during the summer as they grew bigger and their owners lost interest. Look at those curious ears!
Poor Chloe II hates living in a noisy, scary shelter!
The OC Humane Society staff tells me that sadly, cats and rabbits with black coats are generally not as popular as their lighter-colored cousins :\
Dylin's picture makes me laugh. Sitting so pretty and so eager for a photo!
Costello the kitten
Pola and his heart-melting eyes
"OJ" has the same markings as my cat. So pretty!
Hannah. Doesn't she have a rockin' hairdo?
Hooray! Luminaire Images is the official photographer for the Orange County Humane Society, and it's time for some pics of their June wards!
Mowgli and Baloo are BFF's and are hoping to be adopted together. It's actually rather smart...just when you think you can't resist the cuteness of one, the other will appear and overpower you in a hailstorm of Pitiful Puppy Eyes!
Freckles aspires to be an American Idol
Snoopy's photo is dying to be captioned. I kind of want to put a little thought bubble above his head that reads, "You want me to do what?"
Pluto has the worst story I've ever heard---on top of being a stray at a shelter to begin with (which obviously is bad enough), she was recently adopted by an elderly woman who was in a car crash while driving Pluto home from the shelter! The woman was paralyzed from the waist down for the rest of her life, and poor traumatized Pluto is now back at the shelter because her new owner can't care for her after the wreck! I'm not making that up. Pluto needs somebody to show her that car rides can be fun again!
Jumper likes to stand on his hind legs. Not everyone figures out there are ways around being a foot tall!
The weird thing about Tahoe is that he looks and acts JUST like Charlie from All Dogs Go to Heaven. He's got the same friendly grin and floppy Don Bluth movement...no, seriously! So there you have it...if you ever wanted a dog like the one from that movie, Tahoe is at the shelter and waiting for you.
I accidentally called Jack "Toto" while photographing him, I hope he wasn't insulted.
"Give me your best puppy face! Good dogs!!"
"Too much puppyface! TOO MUCH!!" (Deena really knew how to work it, doesn't this just break your heart??)
Cats and kittens are 25% off this month at the OCHS shelter---it's not too late to pick up this sweetheart on the cheap!
Seal ("named after Heidi Klum's husband," I was told), is a little cross-eyed. Not that Seal-the-celeb is cross-eyed, too.
